Wilhelm Richard Wagner (22 May 181313 February 1883) was a 19th century German composer, conductor, theatre director and essayist, primarily known for his operas. Unlike most other great opera composers, Wagner wrote both the scenario and libretto for his works.

Among his works was the Ring Cycle, which Deanna Troi used sections of to prevent captured Tezwan General Gyero Minza from sleeping or resting peacefully in an attempt to break him for information. (TNG novel: A Time to Heal)
