Rick Sternbach (1951- ) is a Star Trek senior illustrator, technical consultant, and reference book author. Outside of Star Trek, his illustrations have appeared in Analog, Galaxy Science Fiction, and other magazines. He painted covers for Larry Niven's Ringworld (honored as a location in Star Trek Maps), World of Ptavvs (introduction of the Slavers), and Neutron Star (containing "The Soft Weapon", later adapted into TAS episode: "The Slaver Weapon"). He won two Hugo Awards in the 1970s plus an Emmy Award for his work on Carl Sagan's Cosmos TV series.
