The Rigel-class was a type of Federation heavy scout starship in Starfleet service in the 24th century, becoming active in the year 2327. (ST reference: The Star Trek Encyclopedia, Last Unicorn RPG module: The Price of Freedom)
History and specifications[]
Authorized by the Coreward Exploratory Directive in the 2320s decade, the Rigel-class vessels were designed for exploring the border of the Alpha and Beta Quadrants towards the core of the galaxy. The vessels' long-range fortitude has since made them a staple of the Starfleet Merchant Marines.
Rigel-class vessels crewed 70 officers and cremwembers, with room for up to 55 passengers or an additional 330 evacuees. The vessels measured 215 meters in length and had 6 decks. The Rigels had two standard personnel transporters, two emergency transporter stages and two cargo transporters.
The Rigel warp engines were rated to cruise at warp five, with a maximum speed of warp 9 and maximum drive of warp 9.2. The Rigel impulse engines were capable of between .7 to .9 the speed of light at upper limit. The Rigel weapons had a full 720-degree firing arc of type VII phaser emitters and two type II photon torpedo launchers with forward ventral, and aft dorsal firing arcs and a normal loadout of 75 photon torpedoes. Rigel ships were defended with deflector shields. (Last Unicorn RPG module: The Price of Freedom)
