Rila was a 23rd century Argoan Aquan woman from the planet Argo.

Biography[]

By the year 2270, Rila had become a junior tribune of the Ruling Tribunal of the Aquans. She was familiar with their culture's history, particularly why their species was genetically engineered to become water breathers in order to survive large-scale surface earthquakes.

In 2270, Captain James T. Kirk and Commander Spock were surgically mutated to survive underwater after their aquashuttle was crushed by a sur-snake. When the two officers sought Aquans to help them return to normal, they followed Rila and a fishing party to their city. They appealed to the Council, and Rila asserted their right to explain themselves. When Kirk and Spock were left to suffocate on the surface, Rila brought Montgomery Scott to rescue them.

Rila agreed to guide them to a library in the sunken city Llach-sse. Once medical records were recovered, she, Nefrel, and Lemas helped them collect ambergris from a sur-snake that was needed for the medical procedure.

After the starship USS Enterprise redirected an earthquake away from the Aquan city, Rila and High Tribune Domar toured the Enterprise in water-suits. She promised that when some Aquans returned to the surface that they would stay in contact with them, this time not ignoring their own edicts on the matter.
