Riverside was a small town located in Iowa, which was part of the United States of America on Earth. The town was bordered by the English and Cedar Rivers. (TOS novel: Final Frontier)

Captain James T. Kirk was born in Riverside on 22 March, 2233. He grew up outside the town in his family's farmhouse. (TOS novels: Best Destiny, Final Frontier)

In 2293, Spock and Dr. Leonard McCoy visited James Kirk's former family home in Riverside, following his memorial service. (TOS - Crucible novel: The Fire and the Rose)

In the Kelvin timeline created by Nero's incursion into 2233, Riverside was still a small town but contained a Starfleet shipyard that could build starships up to and including the colossal Constitution-class. (ST movie & novelization: Star Trek)

Background[edit | edit source]

In 2004, William Shatner arrived in the community, claiming that he was filming a science fiction movie in the area. In reality Shatner and the producers were playing an elaborate hoax on the residents of Riverside to gauge local reaction. These events were depicted in the SpikeTV miniseries Invasion Iowa.
