Robert Durant Williams was a 23rd century Human man, a cyberneticist who resided on Calibus VII in the 2270s.

History and specifics[]

Williams established a cybernetics research facility on Calibus VII, five kilometers from the Federation colony's largest settlement, where he invented Thirty-Seven and other robots and androids. His compound was surrounded by gates and featured a large transmitter. It had an independent generator, laboratory, central memory banks and workstations. He also ran atmospheric tests with low-orbital satellites from the facility.

Williams' experiments involved adding Human DNA into the brains of the robots in an attempt to make them more lifelike, but he had reached an impasse. Mysterious benefactor Britt aided Williams, but secretly she embedded the robots with a zombie virus.

In 2273, her virus was released, infecting all of the colonists. When Williams himself became infected, Thirty-Seven and the other robots secured him in his facility until help arrived. Leonard McCoy developed a serum that rendered the virus dormant, returning sanity to Williams and the colonists. The treatment did not restore Williams' appearance, however, leaving him with gray skin and hair. (TOS comic: "Infestation, Issue 2")

Infected Starfleet security guard Barnes later served aboard the USS Enterprise-A in 2288 without showing any afteraffects, in TOS comic: "A Rude Awakening!", so it was possible that a full cure had restored Williams.
