Rohrbough Maelstrom

The Rohrbough Maelstrom.

The Rohrbough Maelstrom is a spacial anomaly, an enormously destructive gravitational whirlpool in the Milky Way Galaxy.

Specifics[]

The disruption was formed in the wake of two colliding super-massive black holes above the galactic plane. The maelstrom would destroy any starship that approached within a few billion kilometers.

History[]

In 2270, the starship USS Enterprise confronted the Hollow Planet, a life energy-devouring entity that threatened the most populated regions of Federation space. Spock believed that the Rohrbough Maelstrom could destroy the entity. Since the starship was 40 light years away from the maelstrom, Spock lured the Hollow Planet towards it by adjusting the ship's deflector dish to simulate life energy. The gravitational pull of the maelstrom successfully tore apart the Hollow Planet entity, but the Enterprise struggled to escape from the extreme gravity. (TOS - New Visions comic: "The Hunger")
