The Romulan wardrone was an automated starship class vessel developed by the Romulan Star Empire in an alternate timeline where Doctor Noonien Soong's ideal of Soong-type androids be became a reality in the United Federation of Planets.
They were noted as being ships controlled by an artificial intelligence that was a close approximation to that of a positronic brain. These vessels were used as scout craft by the Romulan-Klingon Alliance. One such vessel discovered the planet Turing in the Romulan Neutral Zone but was disabled by the androids on the world through the use of an Iconian software virus. (TNG novel: Brave New World)
