Roswell is a community located in the United States of America. Located in the state of New Mexico, the Roswell Army Air Field was located near the city.

In July 1947, the Ferengi ship Quark's Treasure carrying Quark, Rom, Nog, and Odo, who had hidden on board the ship to catch Quark in the act of smuggling kemocite, crashed in the desert near Roswell after accidentally being sent back in time from 2372. After the four escaped from the facility and back to the 24th century, the United States government covered up the incident, stating that it was a weather balloon that had crashed. Despite this insistence on the part of the government, rumors persisted for years over what had happened in Roswell. (DS9 episode: "Little Green Men")

The encounter at Roswell became known as the Roswell Incident. (ST - The Eugenics Wars novel: The Rise and Fall of Khan Noonien Singh, Volume 2, ST reference: Star Trek: The Visual Dictionary)

James Wykoff didn't believe what happened at Roswell had anything to do with aliens. (DS9 short story: "Isolation Ward 4")

After Detective Chizum read about an alien ship being seen in Alaska in 1986, he thought people in Roswell might believe the story. (TOS - Strange New Worlds VI short story: "Whales Weep Not")
