The Roswell Army Air Field was a military installation operated by the United States of America, located eight miles south of Roswell, New Mexico. It was operated by the United States Army until the creation of the United States Air Force.

After Quark, Rom, Nog and Odo had accidentally traveled back in time to July 1947, they crashed in the New Mexico desert. The Ferengi were soon found by Army officials. They were taken to Roswell Army Air Field, and held there for examination and later questioning. Odo used his shape shifting abilities to remain hidden, and helped the Ferengi escape custody and return to the 24th century.

In the aftermath, the United States would maintain that a weather balloon had crashed - but rumors persisted for years. (DS9 episode: "Little Green Men")

The unofficial Human-Ferengi first contact became known as the Roswell Incident. Despite the US government's continued assertions to the contrary, rumours that an alien spacecraft crashed in Roswell persisted into the 21st century. Official first contact between humanity and the Ferengi would not take place until 2364, 417 years later. (TOS - Strange New Worlds VI short story: "Whales Weep Not", TOS - The Eugenics Wars novel: The Rise and Fall of Khan Noonien Singh, Volume 2, TNG episode: "The Last Outpost")

In September 1947, it became the Roswell Air Force Base. (TOS novel: From History's Shadow)

The Air Force would later take over the base, and operate it as Walker Air Force Base until it was closed in 1967. (Historical Accounts).
