For the mirror universe counterpart, see Ruriko Tenmei (mirror).

Commander Ruriko Tenmei was a Starfleet Intelligence operative in the 24th century.

Biography[]

Ruriko met Elias Vaughn and his occasional partner, T'Prynn of Vulcan, in the year 2347, during an operation on Kora II in Cardassian space. The mission was to expedite the defection of Cardassian scientist Cren Veruda, who had designed a computerized artificial Intelligence that Starfleet wanted to keep from the Cardassian military. For the mission, Tenmei had been surgically altered to appear as a Cardassian and went by an alias, "Kree Omiturin". Ruriko and Vaughn became romantically involved in the year 2349, following the death of T'Pyrnn aboard the USS T'Plana-Hath and gave birth to the couple's only child, Prynn Tenmei (who was named for the late T'Prynn), in the year 2350. (DS9 - Mission Gamma novel: Lesser Evil)

Ruriko was assimilated by the Borg in 2369 on a one way mission ordered by Elias to keep Veruda's artificial intelligence out of the hands of the Borg Collective. Elias found Ruriko in 2376 on an unnamed planet in the Gamma Quadrant. She was the only surviving drone on a crashed Borg ship (in fact the assimilated USS Valkyrie) and was in a state approximating suspended animation in her alcove. Vaughn transported her to the USS Defiant and ordered Dr Bashir to begin removing her implants to start the process of resorting her back to humanity. Shortly after Vaughn was forced to kill her to prevent her from assimilating Prynn who was now a Starfleet ensign. (DS9 - Mission Gamma novel: Lesser Evil)

Alternate versions[]

While Vaughn was undergoing his second orb experience, he took on the persona of Eli Underwood, a man who had been sent to the same insane asylum as Benny Russell after he had accidentally shot and killed his wife, Ruri, the representation of Ruriko Tenmei in that reality. (DS9 novel: Unity)
