A friendly reminder regarding spoilers! At present the expanded Trek universe is in a period of major upheaval with the continuations of Discovery and Prodigy, the advent of new eras in gaming with the Star Trek Adventures RPG, Star Trek: Infinite and Star Trek Online, as well as other post-57th Anniversary publications such as the ongoing IDW Star Trek comic and spin-off Star Trek: Defiant. For other uses, see Ryan.
See Vitali for other articles with titles that contain, either by relationship or by coincidence, this character's surname.

Ryan Vitali was an agent for a mysterious race of aliens who took it upon themselves to safeguard the universe, working on planet Earth in the 20th century. His code name was Agent 347. (TOS novel: From History's Shadow)

Biography[]

In the year 1968, he and his partner Elizabeth Anderson (Agent 201) were to meet with fellow agent Gary Seven (Supervisor 194), but they were killed in an automobile accident before this meeting could take place. (TOS episode: "Assignment: Earth")

These agents were descendants of Humans abducted thousands of years ago, and genetically engineered to accomplish the goals of the Aegis. These agents would then covertly move to prevent Humanity from destroying or harming themselves. (TOS novel: The Eugenics Wars: The Rise and Fall of Khan Noonien Singh, Volume 1)

Background[]

In TOS - Assignment: Earth comic: "We Have Met the Enemy...", rather than Ryan Vitali, Agent 201 was shown to be Mrs. Jones, while partner Agent 347 was Mr. Smith instead of Elizabeth Anderson. Instead of Certoss agents from the Temporal Cold War on Earth, they investigated the threat of Counter Strike. Given that changes have occurred in the prime timeline due to that war (as shown explicitly in canon in SNW episode: "Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow"), it's possible for both sequences of events to have happened in different iterations or continuities of the timeline.
