The S'ten Vastam-class (also known as V6 alphanumerically and translated from Romulan language as "Gallant Wing") was a type of cruiser starship in service to the Romulan Imperial Fleet in the 23rd century.

Specifications[]

The S'ten Vastam was designed for research and military operations comparable to the Federation's Constitution-class vessels. When launched, S'ten Vastam was the strongest vessel class in the fleet.

All seven variant configurations required a crew of 300. Each could ferry up to 12,500 metric tons of cargo (250 SCU). They were equipped with four 9-person transporters, two 20-person emergency transporters, and two cargo transporters. None were designed to land. All were defended with six disruptors grouped in three banks of two — placed forward, port, and starboard — and a type RPL-2 plasma weapon. Though deflector types varied, all produced the same maximum shield power, and all featured type RID-1 impulse engines. All used a type R5M computer core.

The type 1, a class X starship, weighed 140,500 metric tons. It was powered by two type RWF-11 warp engines and featured type RB-6 disruptors and type RSN deflectors. It carried two shuttlecraft and utilized a type RCD cloaking device. (FASA RPG module: Romulan Ship Recognition Manual)

The type 5 cruiser also used the RWF-1 warp engine. These engines were capable of cruising speed of warp seven and a maximum rated speed of warp nine. (FASA RPG module: Starship Tactical Combat Simulator)

Type 5's combat efficiency was 127% better than type 1. Though it was 3,500 metric tons heavier, it had a sturdier superstructure, more efficient type RSO shields, a type RCD cloak, and was armed with type RB-9 disruptors.

At 190,000 metric tons, the type 7 configuration was uprated to a class XII starship with a 118% stronger hull. It could now carry four shuttles and used an upgraded type RCE cloaking device. Its type RWG-1 warp engines increased power 130% and combat efficiency 118%. (FASA RPG module: Romulan Ship Recognition Manual)

Service history and disposition[]

The class entered service in the late 2260s decade, on reference stardate 2/09. When the type 5 was launched, older models were scheduled for refitting to the new specifications. (FASA RPG module: Romulan Ship Recognition Manual)

The type 5 entered service on or after reference stardate 2/11. (FASA RPG module: Starship Tactical Combat Simulator)

In the early 2270s, on reference stardate 2/1403 near the Triangle sector, a fleet of seven Klingon warships attacked a type 1 S'ten Vastam cruiser and three T2 Death Talon-class destroyers. The S'ten Vastam sustained moderate damage, but after the battle it captured and towed a disabled Klingon D11 Dath D'lan-class destroyer. (FASA RPG module: Klingon Ship Recognition Manual)

On reference stardate 2/1712.02, the type 5 ChR Ramelia crossed into Klingon space four parsecs from K'Karr and destroyed the D7M IKS Bloodspiller in a single shot. Ramelia also severely damaged its Steel Wing escorts IKS Defender and IKS Hunter. (FASA RPG module: The White Flame Starship Combat Scenario Pack mission: "Hero's Welcome")

Type 7 variants entered service on reference stardate 2/16. The type 7 ChR S'ten served as the flagship of Commander Tal's Gallant Quest squadron. In 2287, the squadron visited Ectair on a mission to defend the planet from a doomsday machine under the terms of the Treaty of Ectair. (FASA RPG module: A Doomsday Like Any Other)

All type 5 models were refit to type 7 specifications by the mid-2280s, as of reference stardate 2/22. By the late 2280s, 30 type 1, 50 type 2, and 20 type 3 S'ten Vastam vessels had launched, most of which were still in service. One Gallant Wing spotted occasionally by Starfleet in the Triangle served as a private research ship. (FASA RPG module: Romulan Ship Recognition Manual)
