In the early 25th century, the Ranek became the victim of raiders. An Orion vessel attacked the Ranek without warning. The Ranek was destroyed before its deflector shields could be raised. The Federation did not learn its fate at the time, and the ship was reported as missing.
In the year 2409, a Starfleet ship conducted a patrol of the Cernan star system and found the wreckage of the Ranek in an arid region on Cernan V. Wreckage from the deflector array allowed the Starfleet away team to identify the Benzite transport ship. The patrolling ship informed Starfleet to salvage the remains of the Ranek and inform the crew's loved ones. (STO - Klingon War mission: "Cernan System Patrol")
