The SS Rosenberg was a Federation Seidman class long-distance colonizer in service in the mid-23rd century.
In 2243, the Rosenberg is carrying 14 families near the Romulan Neutral Zone, when they become trapped within an ionic storm cluster, and becomes heavily damaged.
The colonists manage to get a distress call out, and Starfleet orders the half-complete USS Enterprise (NCC-1701), to rescue the Rosenberg, as it is the most advanced starship in the area at that time.
After some difficulties with the Romulans, the Enterprise rescues the colonists, but the Rosenberg is lost. (TOS novel: Final Frontier).
