As the USS Benjamin Franklin, this vessel succeeded a number of vessels named for Benjamin Franklin, a statesman of Earth history. Prior to this ship, the Daedalus-class USS Benjamin Franklin had borne the name. (TNG novel: The Haunted Starship)
After being renamed, this vessel was succeeded in name by the Enterprise-class USS Franklin by reference stardate 2/2006. (FASA RPG modules: Federation Ship Recognition Manual, Star Trek: The Next Generation Officer's Manual)
