Sabre bear fight

A sabre bear (tlhIngan Hol: mIl'oD) was a type of animal lifeform native to Qo'noS.

History and specifics[]

Once found in many of the planet's mountain ranges, overhunting has decimated the sabre bear population, and now they are found almost exclusively on Kang's Summit, where only the greatest warriors are permitted the privilege of hunting them. (Decipher RPG module: Creatures)

Sabre bears hunt and eat targs. (TNG novel: The Valiant)

In 2371, Martok was captured by the Dominion when he was hunting sabre bear on Kang's Summit. (DS9 episode: "In Purgatory's Shadow")

Martok once commented that a sabre bear was at its most dangerous when trapped. (DS9 episode: "Blaze of Glory")

In 2375, a song written about Martok mentioned an encounter that Martok had with a sabre bear. In the lyrics, after Martok slew the creature he cried out to the guardians of Sto-Vo-Kor that a worthy foe was at its gates. (ST - New Worlds, New Civilizations short story: "A Warrior's Path")
