The Sagittarius class was a 26th century Federation starship class, a temporal cruiser and variant subclass of the 23rd century Gemini-class cruiser and the Constellation-class and 24th century Cheyenne-class heavy cruisers, in Starfleet service in the 2550s decade. (STO - Agents of Yesterday mission: "Welcome to Earth Spacedock", STO website: Agents of Yesterday : 26th Century Ship Stats)

Service history and specifications[]

Gemini firing

The Gemini in 2270.

The Sagittarius class was based on the 23rd century Gemini- and Constellation-class cruisers. The Gemini was active in the year 2270, where the Temporal Integrity Commission recruited temporal agents from. (STO - Agents of Yesterday mission: "The Once and Future Agent", STO - Agents of Yesterday short story: "Recruitment Drive")

A Constellation-class USS Sagittarius was active in the 24th century. (FASA RPG module: Star Trek: The Next Generation Officer's Manual)

Structurally, the ship consisted of a round, flat saucer section, with a quad of warp nacelles attached on short nacelle pylons with the hull's aft. With a deflector dish inset at the bow, the saucer's design replicated that of the Universe- and Congo-class starships on a smaller scale. The overall component arrangement mirrored the ancestral Cheyenne-class heavy cruisers, and the 23rd century four-nacelled cruisers. In the early 25th century, the latest iterations of the Constellation- and Cheyenne-classes shared their capabilities and could exchange starship components. In 2409, a Cheyenne heavy cruiser held a crew of 500. (STO - Klingon War mission: "Welcome to Earth Spacedock")

The Constellation class was 310 meters long. (The Official Starships Collection Issue 19: "USS Stargazer") The Cheyenne had a length of 362 meters. (The Official Starships Collection Issue 108: "Cheyenne class")

ISS Cheyenne

The Cheyenne-class quad-nacelle design.

By the 26th century, the Sagittarius class operated as cruiser. For the USS Sagittarius (NCC-99297), Starfleet focused on its tactical systems for task force and team-based operations. As a result of the Temporal Cold War, the class was also refitted into temporal cruiser, incorporating timeship technologies such as the molecular reconstruction mechanic and the the chroniton particle exciter module. (STO website: Agents of Yesterday : 26th Century Ship Stats)

Ships of the class, including the Sagittarius, participated in the Battle of Procyon V alongside the USS Enterprise-J against the Temporal Liberation Front and their Sphere Builder allies in 2554. (STO - Future Proof missions: "Ragnarok", "Battle of Procyon V")

The Sagittarius was armed with phaser banks and photon torpedo launchers . As a combat-oriented timeship, it was able to trigger chroniton particles. Defensive systems included deflector shields and tractor beams. (STO - Agents of Yesterday mission: "Welcome to Earth Spacedock")

Due to the opening of a new front of the Temporal Cold War in the year 2410, the Federation Temporal Agency and its Temporal Agent Timot Danlen worked with Khitomer Alliance authorities native to the 25th century. Some commanding officers of that time were recruited as temporal agents, and given access to starship classes of the 26th and 31st centuries. This included the 2550s-era Sagittarius and 2270s-era Gemini classes, which now shared their technical capabilities as temporal cruisers. (STO - Agents of Yesterday mission: "The Once and Future Agent")

Livery[]

In the 25th century, the design of the Sagittarius-class temporal cruiser allowed its commanding officer to choose from different designs of hull materials, which could be modified further at shipyards. (STO - Klingon War mission: "Welcome to Earth Spacedock")

Furthermore, the installation of deflector shields from specific factions modified the hull appearance, including shields from the Reman Resistance, the Breen Confederacy and the Dominion. (STO missions: "Coliseum", "Cold Storage", "Boldly They Rode")
