Sam was a 23rd century Human man employed as a miner at the Pergium Production Station mining colony on planet Janus VI.
Biography[]
In the year 2267, when a Horta began killing people, Sam was put on guard duty in the caverns three levels below the main facility. At the time, four guards had already been killed. His end-of-shift replacement was Schmitter. After being relieved, Sam, Wilson Vanderberg, and four other miners left Schmitter in the tunnels, but shortly after they heard a scream. Sam and the others ran back and arrived moments later, but Schmitter had already been killed.
Sam was present when more than a dozen miners overpowered USS Enterprise security officers Barry Giotto, Vinci and Ryan Leslie to get at the Horta with clubs. (TOS episode & Fotonovel novelization: The Devil in the Dark)
