- This page details Samuel Boma in the primary universe; for the Samuel Boma in the Kelvin timeline created by Nero's temporal incursion see Samuel Boma (Kelvin timeline).
Samuel Boma was a male human scientist who served in the Federation Starfleet in the 23rd century.
While as a Lieutenant junior grade, one of his early postings was aboard the USS Constellation, where he befriended the ship's science officer Ronald Arens, occasionally sharing banter. (TOS novel: That Which Divides)
In the 2260s, Boma was a lieutenant in Starfleet, and served in the sciences division aboard the USS Enterprise as an astrophysicist.
In 2266, Boma accompanied a fifteen-man survey team to Tlaoli IV. (TOS - The Janus Gate novel: Present Tense)
In 2267, Boma was assigned to accompany Commander Spock and a scientific party to study the Murasaki 312 quasar aboard the shuttlecraft Galileo. During the survey, the Galileo crashlanded on the planet Taurus II, and the party were forced to fight for survival and return to the Enterprise. During the course of the mission, Boma openly defied Spock's command. (TOS episode & Star Trek 10 novelization: The Galileo Seven)
Upon the team's return to the Enterprise, Lieutenant Commander Montgomery Scott personally conducted the court martial of Boma, and he was dismissed from Starfleet service. (TOS - Fortunes of War novel: Dreadnought!)
In 2269, Boma had rejoined Starfleet, and became an officer on board the USS Huang Zhong. In that capacity, he encountered the Enterprise when they arrived to rescue the Huang Zhong. (TOS novel: That Which Divides)
Despite his court-martial, Boma returned to Earth and became a successful civilian scientist, and developed the quantobirilium alloy, which was used in the construction of the prototype dreadnought USS Star Empire in 2270. (TOS - Fortunes of War novel: Dreadnought!)
- These last two appearances appear to contradict each other.
