The Saur system was a star system located somewhere in the space of the galaxy's Alpha or Beta Quadrants.
History and specifics
In the 2260s and early 2270s, the Saur system hosted the Hanson Project's laboratory which developed protomatter. By the 2270s, this was an R1 Investigator-class Federation space station.
On reference stardate 2/1312.2, the science vessel Amsterdam suffered fatalities in the Saur system when a sample protomatter container ruptured.
A failed protomatter weapons test in the system killed 43 people and led to a Federation Science Council ban on protomatter research on reference stardate 2/1403.22. (Stardate Magazine vol. 3, Issue 4: "Protomatter: Overview and The Banning Question")
