History and specifics[]

In the year 2409, Tholian incursions into other universes and time periods allowed the Romulan Republic and its allies to acquire the 29th century Paradox-class temporal dreadnought from the Terran Empire of the mirror universe. Command science dreadnought[]

Merian in orbit — 32nd century USS *Merian*-E.

A command science dreadnought combined the capabilities of a science vessel, dreadnought and command ship into one starship. Typically for dreadnoughts, ships of this subtype were large vessels that housed fighter pets in their single hangar bay and could equip dual cannons. As science vessels, ships of this type were capable of subsystem targeting and sensor analysis. When applied to a hostile vessels, these two features weakened the target's defensive systems. Like all Khitomer ALliance vessels, command science dreadnoughts were equipped with a secondary deflector. They also shared the science vessel starship ability package, which included enhanced particle generators, advanced shield systems, enhanced restorative circuitry and reactive shield technology. Battle-hardened command science dreadnoughts benefited from these science vessel abilities and starship traits introduced with their class but transferable to other classes. Starship traits and a special weapon classified as a universal console were standard on all tier 6-rated Khitomer Alliance starship types. To count as a command ship, at least one bridge officer holding the rank of commander had to be part of the command specialization. In addition to their special weapon, command science dreadnoughts carried seven weapon emplacements, four fore and three aft. The 2380s-era Dauntless II-class was classed as a command science vessel in the year 2411. Ships of the class carried te vanguard shield shaping starship trait and carried a Flyer-class squadron in the hangar bay. In 2411, the class was represented by the USS Dauntless (NCC-80816). The 32nd century configuration of the Merian-class was operated by the Alliance in the 2410s as a command science dreadnought. Its starship trait was scientific bulwark and its hangar bay was equipped with 32c. Federation shuttles. Like all 32nd century Federation starships, the Merian class was equipped with a Federation battle cloak. This class was represented by the USS Merian (NCC-81904-E).
