The scorpion is a lifeform, a member of the arachnid family which is native to planet Earth.
History and specifics[]
In early January 2374, Chakotay told Kathryn Janeway the parable about the scorpion who sought to ride on a fox's back to cross a river safely, assuring the fox that he wouldn't sting him and he would be safe, as if he did sting him they would both drown in the river. Halfway across, the scorpion stung the fox and when the fox asked why he had stung him the scorpion replied, "I couldn't help it, it's my nature." It was Chakotay's hope that this would deter Janeway in her plan to form an alliance with the Borg Collective against Species 8472.
