The Scorpius Reach is a large area of space located in the Scorpius-Centaurus Association region of the Beta Quadrant, more than 400 light-years from Sol.
Despite preliminary observations by long-range probes, the first-manned expedition by the Federation was conducted by the Cleopatra's Needle, a vessel chartered by the University of Alpha Centauri in the late 2350s. In 2359, the USS Mary Kingsley, under the command of Captain Onna Karapleedeez, was the first Starfleet vessel to enter the region. Captain Donald Varley was also somewhat familiar with the region, and provided maps of the Reach to his friend Jean-Luc Picard. (TNG novel: The Buried Age)
Areas surrounding the Reach were home to several cosmozoan species discovered by the USS Intrepid in the 23rd century. (TTN novel: Orion's Hounds)
- The name "Scorpius Reach" was coined by The Buried Age author Christopher L. Bennett, based on the nomenclature established with the Taurus Reach in the Star Trek: Vanguard series. He likewise christened the similarly-named Cygnus Reach.
