A security camera or surveillance camera is a sensor device used to remotely view a location, for military purposes, police purposes, or other security purposes. They may aid in monitoring prisoners, apprehending criminals, deterring opportunistic crimes, or directing a military operation remotely.
History[]
Many species employed surveillance devices such as cameras in their military facilities. In the Klingon Empire, security cameras were often affixed to the walls of fortified compounds. They were present on the penal asteroid of Rura Penthe, for example. One recorded an assassination attempt against Gowron and the Klingon High Council in the 2270s. The Dominion employed them inside their Internment camps, and could quickly deploy Jem'hadar guards to their location, via transporter beam. One such facility was the prison camp in the Arduria system, where the crew of the USS Defiant were held prisoner in 2374. They were also present on Cardassian facilities, such as that on planet Hass'terral. (DS9 video game: The Fallen)
