Captain Selik was a Vulcan officer in Starfleet for more than forty years. He eventually was given command of the Hermes-class USS Calypso. When that ship departed Bellaea, it was discovered that they had taken on parasites which compromised her systems. Selik, believing his ship lost, ordered a self destruct. For his actions, Selik received the Medal of Honor posthumously. (TOS novel: Vulcan!)
