A serum is a type of medical treatment, a chemically processed substance used for medical effect, such as to treat disease or to promote healthy bodily function in a lifeform.

History and specifics[]

In the year 2266, Christine Chapel tried to manufacture the serum they needed to cure the plague which had stricken Argylus, but was unable to do so. (TOS comic: "Child's Play")

In 2266, Doctor Leonard McCoy developed a serum that could break down polywater in the crew of the Federation starship USS Enterprise, curing them of polywater intoxication. (TOS episode & novelization: The Naked Time)
