A service patch is an emblem worn as part of one's uniform, used to distinguish the personnel contributed by different space services of the Federation member states.

In the 2160s, during the early years of the Federation Starfleet, the service patch was worn on the left chest of one's uniform. (ENT - Rise of the Federation novel: A Choice of Futures)
