Captain Sherman was the commanding officer of the USS Renown which was assigned to security duty at the Unity One Starbase during its final phase of construction and inauguration ceremony. He assisted in protecting the station from an attack from Klingon freighters armed with explosives appearing to be under the command of Squadron Commander Jureth.
He later sought permission to engage Klingon reinforcements under the command of General Mi'Qogh, but this was denied by Captain Jean-Luc Picard who told him it "was not a time for passion." (TNG video game: Starfleet Command III)
