The ShiKahr-class was a type of Federation starship in service during the mid-24th century to early 25th century (Prelude to Star Trek: Day of Blood), serving as a light cruiser.

History[]

ISS Liebig and frigates

The ShiKahr-class was designed in the 24th century as a replacement of the old Miranda-class. These starships served in the field of logistics, used to transport fuel, cargo, and other supplies to Federation starbases and starships (X: Thomas Marrone).

By the year 2378, multiple ShiKahr-class vessels were serving in Starfleet. The USS Santa Cruz was one such starship, which transported Alexander Rozhenko to the Klingon colony of Korvat. Upon his return to the ship, a Klingon bird-of-prey attacked and destroyed the Santa Cruz.

The USS T'Shen Kovil was another ShiKahr-class starship which was destroyed in the Battle of Wolf 359.

Technical Data[]

Design[]

The ShiKahr-class had an overall length of 246.2 meters, a width of 140 meters, and a height of 78 meters. The gross vehicle mass of this ship was 400,000 metric tons. The ship had a standard crew complement of 250 officers, with a maximum capacity of 3,750 persons. The maximum warp speed of this vessel is Warp 8, with a standard cruising speed of Warp 6.

The design included two hull sections: a teardrop-shaped primary hull and a detachable engineering module mounted between arching support pylons. The design of the ShiKahr deviates from traditional starships in that the secondary hull is mounted on the dorsal side of the saucer section, right behind the bridge dome. The support pylons curve downward, forming the warp nacelles on the ventral side.

The saucer section contains all of the starship's primary systems, including the bridge, crew quarters, and other amenities commonly found on starships. Located in the forward section of the ship are two giant hangar bays capable of storing shuttles, runabouts, worker bees, and other small support craft. These two hangar bays are always open, but shielded, as to allow the regular traffic of small craft in and out of the ship. This is different from the two shuttle bays and maintenance bays located on the aft side of the ship. In total, the ShiKahr can carry up to 28 support craft, with more possible to carry in emergencies.

The engineering module contains the warp core, deflector array, and sensor suite of the starship. The secondary hull also houses the forward and aft torpedo launchers. The module can be separated from the rest of the ship in the event of a warp core breach. However, unlike the Galaxy-class, the engineering module has no methods of propulsion, so it cannot operate independently from the rest of the ship.

Tactical Capabilities[]

In addition to the two photon torpedo launchers, the ShiKahr is also equipped with eleven type-10 phaser banks, distributed in phaser arrays at various points along both hulls. The forward phaser array had a firing arc of 180°, while the six aft phaser banks covered the rest, ensuring that no target could escape the starship's line of sight. However, due to the ShiKahr's role as a logistics cruiser, these phasers did not have as much power supplied to them as dedicated battleships, and as a result, its battle abilities are severely limited.

In 2378, the USS Santa Cruz was destroyed by a 100-year old Klingon bird-of-prey in single combat.

Appendices[]

Background[]

The class was presumably named for the city of ShiKahr on Vulcan. In real life, the starship was designed by EC Henry, who has designed starships for Star Trek Online and Star Wars.
