Shield nutation modulation was a Starfleet technique to vary the frequency of deflector shields.

In 2366, Geordi La Forge used a shield nutation technique to improve the defense of the USS Enterprise against the weapons of the Borg cube invading the Federation. (TNG episode: "The Best of Both Worlds, Part I")

During the Battle of Wolf 359, Captain Storil ordered the shield nutation of the USS Saratoga to be recalibrated to defend against the same Borg cube. (DS9 episode & novelization: Emissary)

In 2381, Benjamin Sisko ordered the USS New York, the USS James T. Kirk and the USS Cutlass to commence shield nutation before the starships engaged six Borg cubes en route to attack Alonis. (ST - Typhon Pact novel: Rough Beasts of Empire)
