The Shirley, along with the Kwolek, replaced the da Vinci's two original shuttles, the Archimedes and the Franklin, which were destroyed in the atmosphere of Galvan VI in the year 2376. (SCE eBook: Ishtar Rising, Book 2)
In 2377, Captain David Gold took the Shirley to planet Tau Ophiucus following the suspected death of his friend Patrice Bennett. Later, following an attack by Rod Portlyn, Gold destroyed the Shirley in a head-on collision with Portlyn's yacht, the Stellar Dream, in a coordinated attack with the runabout USS Amazon.
