In 2381, Lieutenant Beldon was the chief engineer of the USS Planck during that vessel's exploration of the Delta Quadrant. (VOY novel: Children of the Storm)
Planck's first mission was to investigate a non-corporeal species, called the "Children of the Storm", together with USS Demeter. Four days into the mission the fleet aroused the interest of the Children of the Storm. Captain Regina Farkas' attempt to parlay with them failed and the Children surrounded Planck and destroyed the ship, killing everyone aboard. (VOY novel: Children of the Storm)
