A friendly reminder regarding spoilers! For other uses, see Silver.

Silver (symbol Ag) is a chemical element, a transition metal with atomic number 47 on the periodic table.

Characteristics and history

Silver has an atomic mass of 107.870. Silver was discovered by Humans in Earth's ancient history. (ST reference: Star Fleet Medical Reference Manual)

Silver was a somewhat rare mineral on Earth. Most Human economies placed high value on this metal until the 20th century, and it was used to make jewelry, high-value tableware, and currency coins.

Prior to United Federation of Planets contact, gold and silver had no meaning on Capella IV. Starfleet trade ships introduced these materials as currency prior to 2267. (TOS - Star Trek 3 novelization: Friday's Child)
