A simulacrum was a life-like recreation of a person, object or environment. In the 25th century, the Excalbians used simulacra to determine the value of the concepts of "good" and "evil". (STO - Legacy mission: "The Measure of Morality (Part 1)")

History and specifics[]

On stardate 5906.4 in the year 2269, Yarnek invited the crew of the Federation starship USS Enterprise to Excalbia. Witnessed by countless Excalbians, Yarnek put Captain James T. Kirk and Commander Spock to test alongside historical persons in a contest between "good" and "evil". One of the people aiding Kirk and Spock was a double of the 19th century Human politician Abraham Lincoln. (TOS episode: "The Savage Curtain")

On stardate 6097.2 in 2270, Yarnek had taken the form of George Washington and dealt with the Enterprise crew again. He and his faction settled on Zeta Gibraltar in the Vara Nebula. Yarnek's followers had taken the forms of historical Earth figures. They could not overcome the accuracy of their recreations. For instance, lice removed from their hair would reappear. (TOS novel: Savage Trade)

On stardate 84999.22 in 2411, Yarnek pulled a Khitomer Alliance vessel, with Captain Seven of Nine aboard, to Excalbia. He explained the trial of good versus evil had been inconclusive. Abraham Lincoln and 23rd century Starfleet officer Commander Michael Burnham were assigned to Seven and her Khitomer away team as part of completing several scenarios. The Excalbians did not account for the simulated people to gain sentience. The Borg Queen simulacrum broke free of her simulation and interacted with other scenarios. The situation escalated when simulated Section 31 Control nanites and Seven of Nine's Borg nanoprobes merged and created a Control Borg Seven of Nine drone. (STO - Legacy mission: "The Measure of Morality (Part 1)")

During the fight between Captain Seven's team and the emergent Borg Queen, the Seven simulacrum killed the Borg Queen and gained control over the Excalbian simulacrum technique, which she called a "conceit". Troops from various simulations emerged through the Excalbian portals and aimed to attack Yarnek but were held back by Captain Seven. Following Queen Seven's defeat in ground combat, the Battle of Excalbia ensued in orbit between simulacra of starships generated by the Excalbians and Borg Queen Seven of Nine. Captain Seven's fleet defeated the queen's, destroying the fledgling Control Borg. Lincoln remained with the Excalbians as a diplomat with the rest of the galaxy, while Commander Burnham was allowed to continue existing and decided to reactivate her commission with Starfleet. (STO - Legacy mission: "The Measure of Morality (Part 2)")
