Skagarans were a warp-capable humanoid civilization originating from somewhere in the galaxy's Alpha or Beta Quadrants. Descendants of Humans that had once been been enslaved by Skagarans referred to them as "Skags", a slang racial slur.

History and specifics[]

Biology[]

Skagarans were humanoid, though they possessed red protrusions above their eyebrows, throats, and the fronts of their ears. Additionally they were noted to be more capable of tolerating alcohol. Skagarans were able to interbreed with humans.

The species also possessed a unique brain structure that gave them an innate sense for detecting subtle motion. (TTN novel: Sight Unseen)

History[]

In the latter half of the 19th century, they kidnapped a number of Humans from the Ancient West to use as slave labour on a colony they were building in the Delphic Expanse, but the Humans revolted and gained control of the colony.

Prior to the year 1893, the Skagarans' activities on Earth attracted the attention of a group of anthropologists, among them was Guinan, who clandestinely studied life on primitive worlds. Upon learning that the Skagaran were abducting the natives, they had intervened to halt the slave trade. (TNG - The Lost Era novel: The Buried Age)

The colony was rediscovered in the 22nd century by the NX-class starship Enterprise. However due to the Xindi threat Earth faced, they were unable to take the humans back. After creating a new kind of peace between the Skagaran and human inhabitants, the Enterprise depart. Before they left, they gave historical information from Earth. (ENT episode: "North Star")

During the Earth-Romulan War, Skagaran-made spirits made their way into hands of Archer and Trip Tucker. (ENT novels: The Good That Men Do, Kobayashi Maru)

By the 24th century, the Skagarans on North Star had integrated harmoniously with the human population. Some, such as Ethan Kyzak, had joined Starfleet. (TTN novel: Sight Unseen)

They had a form of liquor called Skagaran whiskey and Skagaran Lone Star tequila. (ENT episode: "North Star")
