Smith was a 23rd century Human man. He was a crewman who served aboard the Federation starship USS Enterprise in the 2260s under the command of Captain James T. Kirk.
Biography[]
In 2267, Smith was one of four crewmen who volunteered to join Kirk and Pavel Chekov aboard the Galileo to search Tekkor's ocean for a missing surveyor. A red octopus monster wrapped huge tentacles around the shuttlecraft — blasting free sent the shuttle careening out of control underwater, and Smith's right wrist was sprained during the escape. After the ship was stabilized, a fellow crewmen bandaged the injury.
The crew eventually found Survey II in an undersea hangar bay, its personnel attached to a strange contraption. Smith and the other crewmen armed themselves with phaser rifles, while Kirk and Chekov had type-2 phasers. One crewman — possibly Smith — thought approaching Tekkorians were about to attack, and fired first. After a short battle, the landing party was captured. The next day, they attempted to escape and were battling the Tekkorians. One of the Survey II crew revived and interceded, explaining that they'd been medically treated in stasis chambers and that the Tekkorian's were friendly. (TOS comic: "Under the Sea")
