Somalia is a country on the planet Earth, located on the east coast of the continent of Africa. It bordered the Indian Ocean, Djibouti, Ethiopia, and Kenya.

History and specifics[]

Home to the ancient Somali civilization, Somalia fell into civil war, lawlessness, and anarchy following the collapse of its central government in the early 1990s, continuing into the early 21st century. (TOS - Star Trek II Short Stories short story: "Under Twin Moons")

During the Eugenics Wars, Somalian Augment Elijah Jugurtha Amin vied for control of the region. In 1993, The New York Times reported that large numbers of Somali citizens had been killed by American troops. (ST - The Eugenics Wars novel: The Rise and Fall of Khan Noonien Singh, Volume 2)

The article was probably referencing the Battle of Mogadishu, a.k.a. the Black Hawk Down Incident.'

By the 23rd century, Somalia had become a province of the United States of Africa. (TOS reference: Star Trek II Biographies)
