Sornek was the elderly Vulcan director of the Federation Department of Temporal Investigations up to the late 24th century. He retired from the DTI in February 2369, succeeded by Laarin Andos.

One of Sornek's last directives before his retirement was for the investigation of Devidia II and its system to ensure there were no more temporal displacement chambers like the one destroyed by the USS Enterprise-D. However, before the investigation could take place, he was contacted by Aegis agent Cyral Nine who advised him to leave the Devidians alone as, despite their predatory ways, they took great care to preserve the timeline. Sornek deduced that the various agencies that enforced the Temporal Accords didn't wish to provoke the Devidians to more drastic and disruptive measures, considering them a lesser evil in the grand scheme of things.
