For other uses, see Soukara.

Soukara was a planet located in Cardassian space, and was the site of a Dominion base in the mid-2370s. The base was well defended as it was located deep in a jungle region on the planet, and was protected by transporter inhibitors.

History[]

In 2374, Lieutenant Commanders Worf and Jadzia Dax were dispatched to Soukara to recover Lasaran, a Cardassian defector, who claimed that he knew the location and identity of every Founder that was operating in the Alpha Quadrant. Unfortunately, Dax became injured following an attack by a Jem'Hadar patrol, and Worf choose to abort the mission in order to seek medical care. (DS9 episode: "Change of Heart")

Several weeks later, Senator Merken Vreenak travelled to Soukara to have a diplomatic meeting with Weyoun. After leaving the planet, he brought his ship under cloak to Deep Space 9. Elim Garak later used the excuse of searching for Romulan intelligence on Soukara to plant the bomb on Vreenak's ship that later killed him. (DS9 episode: "In the Pale Moonlight")

The United Federation of Planets and the Romulan Star Empire believed the Dominion planted the bomb while Vreenak was at Soukara. Admiral Marta Batanides was one of many people who believed this, although she learned the truth several weeks later from Benjamin Sisko. (DS9 novel: Hollow Men)

Kirsten Clancy believed the incident on Soukara was a reason not to promote Worf to captain and give him command of the USS Enterprise. (PIC novel: The Last Best Hope)

Destiny timeline[]

While serving in Starfleet Intelligence, T'Lana learned the details of the classified mission to Soukara, and found Worf's actions illogical and distasteful, and identified that if the defector had been rescued then many lives could have been saved, including the crew of the USS Indefatigable, which she served upon before its destruction by the Jem'Hadar. (TNG novel: Resistance)

When Jean-Luc Picard made Worf first officer of the USS Enterprise in 2379, Picard found that the events on Soukara had made Starfleet wary of Worf's position in a command role. (TNG novel: Greater Than the Sum)

The Galor-class Cardassian warship CDS Soukara was named for this world. (ST video games: Armada, Armada II)
