The Soviet Navy was a branch of the military of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics.

In 1995, the Soviet Navy assigned the aircraft carrier Sergei G. Gorshkov to a demonstration run in the Black Sea. The mission ended with the mysterious destruction of the vessel and the loss of all hands. (TNG novel: Ghost Ship)
