The Space Rescue Bug was a type of space bug, an auxiliary craft in service to Starfleet in the 23rd century. The vehicle was assigned to the Federation starship USS Enterprise in the mid-2260s.

History and specifics[]

The vessel was specifically constructed for space rescue operations and manned by a team familiar with the spacecraft's capabilities and equipment. The vehicle was outfitted with rockets, magnetic grapplers, cutters, and an extendible forward airlock. It had a crew of five people.

Early in 2266, the Space Rescue Bug was used to recover an ejection capsule from a Zargotian cruiser. Grapplers caught the capsule, cutters broke in, and then Brad and Leonard McCoy tended to the occupant, a dying Zargotian. (TOS comic: "Target: Zargot")
