The Ssessekh were a humanoid reptilian species native to Gornar in the galaxy's Beta Quadrant Tau Lacertae star system, one of several Gorn species to evolve on this planet. In the 23rd and 24th centuries, they were the most commonly encountered representatives of the isolationist Gorn Hegemony. (Adventures RPG module: Beta Quadrant Sourcebook)

History[]

In 2256, Captain Gabriel Lorca had a Ssessekh Gorn skeleton in a laboratory aboard the USS Discovery. (DSC episode: "Context Is for Kings")

First contact between the Gorn Hegemony and the United Federation of Planets was made when, due to a cultural misunderstanding, the Gorn invaded Cestus III and slaughtered the population of the newly-established Federation colony. The Ssessekh soldiers then returned to their ship, the Gorn raider GCS Gress'sril.

The Gress'ril was intercepted by the Federation starship USS Enterprise. The Metron Consortium forced a one-on-one fight between the two ship's captains on the planet Edren IV,[4] which the Metrons created for purpose of serving as arena. Starfleet captain James T. Kirk spared the life of the Ssessekh captain S'slee. (Adventures RPG module: Beta Quadrant Sourcebook)

The encounter led to cautiously friendly relations between the Hegemony and the Federation. By the year 2270, Ssessekh and Federation miners cooperated in exploiting the resources of Edren IV. (STO - Agents of Yesterday mission: "In the Shadow of Cestus")

Starfleet had learned that the Gorn were a multi-species society by 2371. The Ssessekh and Russth were two confirmed species, with anecdotal evidence pointing to as many as four more. (Adventures RPG module: Beta Quadrant Sourcebook)

By the early 2380s decade, the environmental requirements to breed warrior-caste Gorn were so specific that they could only be made on a single crecheworld, Sazssgrerrn.

In 2382, Sazssgrerrn was incinerated by a solar eruption. The Ssessekh could not reproduce and faced extinction. The Typhon Pact supported the Hegemony in securing Hranrar as new crecheworld, a sufficiently similar world inhabited by the accommodating Hranrarii in the Vela OB2 Association deep in the Beta Quadrant. (TTN - Typhon Pact novel: Seize the Fire)

During Game Day on Cestus III in 2389, the Human players of the Pike City Pioneers expected an easy baseball victory against the slow, lumbering Ssessekh thought to represent the Hegemony. Instead, the S'Yahazah City Talons were made up of the Velociraptor-like Russth. (STO novel: The Needs of the Many)

By the 25th century, different Gorn species had supplanted the Sssessekh, including a new 3 meter tall variety. (STO - Wasteland mission: "A Fistful of Gorn")

Mirror universe[]

By the year 2257 in the mirror universe, the skull of a Ssessekh Gorn was on display aboard the ISS Shenzhou. (DSC episode: "The Wolf Inside")
