GK36-stagecoach

A stagecoach being robbed.

A stagecoach was a four-wheeled coach pulled by horses.

In America, the individual who sat next to a stagecoach driver invariably carried a shotgun, giving rise to the phrase "riding shotgun". (SGR novel: Enigma)

History[]

On 3 April 1855, a time travelling Montgomery Scott materialized within a stagecoach in southern California, spooking the two passengers who were already riding in it. Shortly afterward, the stagecoach was held up by Billy Clancey’s gang of highwaymen. They robbed the passengers at gunpoint, but when they asked Scott for his money, the engineer realized his 23rd century phaser could be taken. He did a quick draw and disarmed one of the bandits to get the upper hand. (TOS comic: "A Bomb in Time")

In Worf's Ancient West Program, Tom Rivard robbed a stagecoach. (DS9 comic: "Unhappy Trails")

In 2369 in a transplanted Preserver Earth colony representing Germany from the Middle Ages, mail and trade goods were exchanged between towns using stagecoaches. Springs were employed to improve the vehicle’s suspension. (TNG novel: Here There Be Dragons)
