This book was solicited for publication in April 2009, but was not actually released until the end of the following month.
The back cover text contains the inaccurate statement that the book's contents were "the first-ever original Trek stories for comics". This ignores three prior series: Gold Key Comics, the UK comic strips, and Peter Pan Records. The contents were also not the first original comics based on TOS movie: The Motion Picture, as the last four Peter Pan Records stories and the US Comic Strips series debuted prior to Marvel's series.
