The Starbase 16 planet was an otherwise unnamed planet that was the home of the Federation's Starbase 16, located in the space of the galaxy's Alpha or Beta Quadrant at coordinates 5.70N 2.00W. (FASA RPG module: The Federation; TOS comic: "The Haunting of the Enterprise!")
Specifics[]
It was a class N water world with practically no surface land. The starbase's 20-square-kilometer planetary installation was built mostly underwater at Conat Shallows on the submerged Alpha Shelf continent near Welter's Island, with associated landing fields, subspace transmission antennae, and other structures set on pillars 100 meters above sea level supported by latticed towers. A majority of the planet's inhabitants worked on tethered seafarms or aquatic factory vessels. (Stardate Magazine vol. 2, Issue 8: "Some Star Bases: A Profile")
It was located at coordinates 5.70N 2.00W in the general vicinity of the planets Babylon, Hollow Way and Lustrix. It was in Starfleet Intelligence sector 1, which contained many colonial and home star systems of Federation members. (FASA RPG modules: The Federation, Star Fleet Intelligence Manual)
The base was situated near the Tycho star system. (TOS - My Brother's Keeper novel: Constitution)
History[]
The annual Bathhurst Memorial Golf Tournament was hosted there. In the 23rd century, Ports Illustrated magazine released a profile of Starbase 16 with an overview of the planet itself. (Stardate Magazine vol. 2, Issue 8: "Some Star Bases: A Profile")
In 2273, the USS Enterprise orbited the planet while dropping off a rescued Federation film archivist and a captured alien thought-enhancer at the starbase. (TOS comic: "The Haunting of the Enterprise!")
