Service history[]
In the year 2267, following the encounter with the planet killer, the USS Enterprise set course for Starbase 17. (TOS - Star Trek 3 novelization: The Doomsday Machine)
In 2270, Starbase 17 was an Andorian-built space station operated by the Andorian Engineering Corps. Chief of the engineering team was Mister Shatah. Two Kumari-class battlecruisers were at the station when the USS Enterprise arrived for repairs and overhauling on stardate 7101.6. The Andorian engineers repaired the Enterprise but the computer was malfunctioning, suffering from prejudice against Tellarites. Commander Spock was able to restore the computer's functionality. (TOS - Burden of Knowledge comic: "A Matter of Perspective")
In the early 2280s, on reference stardate 2/2107.16, the Merchant Marines starship USS Sparon picked up a transmission relayed from Starbase 17. It was a code blue 1-A message from Admiral Randolph Morrow reporting that the Organians had stopped enforcing the Organian Peace Treaty. (FASA RPG module: Old Soldiers Never Die)
In 2286, the new USS Enterprise-A was heading for Starbase 17 for shore leave when Captain James T. Kirk was abducted by Klingons. After Kirk's abduction, the Enterprise did continue on to the starbase under the command of Captain Spock, and underwent a series of repairs and upgrades there. (TOS novel: Timetrap)
In 2287, at Starbase 17 Commodore Stilad served as Starfleet Intelligence station chief, Captain Wenk Ifftiss as front organization head, and Captain Gustavus Barbero as a field equipment technician. (FASA RPG module: Star Fleet Intelligence Manual)
In the 2270s or 2280s, Stilad managed SI's classified Operation Kingmaker mission from Starbase 17. (FASA RPG module: Operation Kingmaker)
By 2376, Starbase 17 had been rebuilt as a Sigma-class starbase. The station was involved in the battle against the invading Borg Collective. (TNG video games: Armada, Armada II)
- In Armada, the starbase's space station name was randomly assigned to a playing field station by the game software.
