Starbase 22 was a Federation starbase that was active in the 23rd century, brought to operational status on stardate 1/6401. Starbase 22 was located at coordinates 5.56S, 4.53W; near Thranstor, Arcanis, Lasur Funop and Organia on the Federation side of the Klingon Treaty Zone. (FASA RPG module: The Four Years War)

Service history

During the Federation-Klingon War of 2256-2257 Starbase 22 fell victim to a Klingon attack when a cloaked Klingon raider tailed the USS Saratoga into drydock, where it then uncloaked and detonated its antimatter supply, destroying the dock and several Starfleet vessels. (DSC episode: "The War Without, The War Within")

The base was rebuilt following the war. It later served as a base for Starfleet's Klingon intelligence sector, under the command of Starbase 23's intelligence headquarters. Starbase 22 was the control base of Southern Skies Starlines's Westlines Division, a Starfleet Intelligence front organization. (FASA RPG module: Star Fleet Intelligence Manual)

In the year 2273, the base was commanded by Commodore David Fein. The USS Enterprise docked at Fein's starbase to receive minor repairs and make some changes following the refit to make the vessel more comfortable, take aboard additional personnel, and take on the crew's personal effects after the Enterprise's quick launch in response to the V'Ger threat. Fein offered to have his crew paint the Enterprise, which Captain James T. Kirk declined. (TOS novel: Ex Machina)

In 2274, during Kirk's second five-year mission, the Enterprise had its inertial platform recalibrated at the starbase. As the ship broke orbit, Commodore Cobb alerted Kirk that a long-range shuttle had just arrived, carrying a passenger for them. (TOS comic: "It's a Living")

In 2276, Starfleet Command ordered the Enterprise to the starbase to be briefed by Fleet Admiral Paul Harrington on their mission to return Stevvin and Kailyn to Shad. (TOS novel: The Covenant of the Crown)

In the 2280s decade, the base's executive officer, Georgi Ilanenko, would go on to command Starbase 23. (FASA RPG module: Star Trek IV Sourcebook Update)
