A stasis box was a small device with a control panel which generated a stasis field which would protect perishable items.
History and specifics[]
The use of stasis box technology was popular with Ferengi because they would often keep live tube-grubs inside them and keep them alive for some time.
In the year 2372, Sean Hawk discovered a stasis box amongst Linda Addison's quarters aboard the USS Enterprise-E, and found that the box contained a sample of Addison's blood, proving that she had been replaced by a Changeling infiltrator. (TNG eBook: A Sea of Troubles)
Slaver civilization[]
A different type of stasis box was used by the ancient Slaver civilization. The box kept items preserved in temporal stasis, where not even time could get to the items inside. These boxes also had the ability to glow when it was near another box, even if it was a few light-years away. (TOS novel: From History's Shadow; TAS episode & Log Ten novelization: The Slaver Weapon)
In 2270, four Slaver stasis boxes were discovered by a landing party from the starship USS Enterprise hidden within the walls of an ancient Slaver outpost on a planet in unexplored territory. One box contained a flying belt able to lift one Human. Another contained a neuronic whip. A third contained a sonic grenade with the pin pulled. The fourth contained a helmet with a psionic amplifier. (Heritage Models RPG module: Adventure Gaming in the Final Frontier)
