Memory Beta, non-canon Star Trek Wiki

Sterchak was a male Vulcan who lived in the 21st century. He was a Professor of philosophy and belonged to a minor branch of Vulcan philosophy. Sterchak's principle states that "any complex phenomenon that occurs only once indicates a high probability of sentient life".

One of the early hosts of Dax met Sterchak when he visited Trill and became slightly intoxicated when he drank several glasses of Ghiachan brandy.

In 2371, Jadzia Dax mentioned Sterchak to Honored Professor T'Kreng, although T'Kreng believed Sterchak's principle was "merely a guide to logical inference, not a fundamental law of nature". (DS9 - Invasion! novel: Time's Enemy)
